US ambassador marks 102 years since Polish women gained right to vote

The American ambassador to Warsaw has offered congratulations to mark 102 years since Polish women obtained the right to vote.

“Our votes help to shape our lives and our countries,” Georgette Mosbacher wrote on Twitter.

Together with her message she shared a video, filmed at the initiative of the embassies of Ireland and Canada, in which ambassadors of various countries congratulate Polish women.

Women in this country gained the right to vote on November 28, 1918, on the basis of a decree issued by Józef Piłsudski, one of the fathers of Polish independence.

That same year, after the end of  World War I, Poland re-emerged as a sovereign country after 123 years of being partitioned by neighbouring powers.
