Belarusian lawyer detained in Moscow, transferred to Minsk: reports

A Belarusian lawyer has been detained in Moscow and transferred to a detention centre in Minsk, news outlets have reported.

Yuras Zyankovich, a Belarusian lawyer who lives in the United States, was detained while on a trip to the Russian capital, Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty reported.

The broadcaster cited his wife Alena Dzenisavets as saying that he was “abducted” by Russian security officers on April 11.

Zyankovich has been living in the US since 2007, where he works as an lawyer. He is a former regional leader of the opposition Belarusian Popular Front party, Radio Free Europe reported.

The broadcaster also reported that on April 12, Belarusian political analyst Alyaksandr Fyaduta "went incommunicado" in Moscow.

A day later, the Belarusian KGB said that Fyaduta was in custody in Minsk, according to Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty.

The broadcaster cited a statement by the Belarusian security forces as saying that Fyaduta and Belarusian Popular Front chairman Ryhor Kastusyou were being held on unspecified charges.
