They made the appeal at the end of the 8th Polish-Spanish Parliamentary Forum, which took place in the northern Spanish city of Burgos, officials told reporters.

At the close of the two-day meeting, Polish and Spanish lawmakers adopted a joint document, calling on Russia “to immediately stop its mass attacks on the civilian population and the civilian infrastructure, and to withdraw immediately, totally and unconditionally from the internationally recognised territory of Ukraine.”

The declaration also called for "Russia’s crimes against humanity in Ukraine" to be brought to international justice.

Support for Ukraine

In addition, Polish and Spanish legislators urged their governments, NATO and the European Union to provide "unwavering and real assistance" to Ukraine as it defends itself against Russian aggression.

NATO and EU should 'complement and reinforce each other'

The document said that, in the current security situation, NATO and the EU should “complement and reinforce each other.”

“Polish and Spanish parliamentarians call on all democratic countries to stand united amid the security threats faced by the world, and they put their trust in the NATO alliance,” the declaration added.

The Polish delegation at the forum was led by upper-house Speaker Tomasz Grodzki and deputy lower-house Speaker Małgorzata Gosiewska.

The Spanish group, meanwhile, was headed by lower-house Speaker Meritxell Batet Lamaña and upper-house Speaker Ander Gil Garcia.
