The leader of the German Christian Democrats (CDU), Friedrich Merz, has added his voice to the growing criticism of Chancellor Scholz's leadership on the war between Ukraine and Russia.
Merz is also leader of the opposition to Scholz's three-way coalition of Social Democrats, Greens and Liberals.
Merz said that in Scholz's place he would send Marder infantry fighting vehicles. He added that though Ukraine was defending itself well, Europe was waiting for Germany to be more decisive.
