Addressing a conference in Lithuania via video link, Zelensky said: "There is no split, there is no schism among Europeans and we have to preserve this. This is our mission number one this year."

He added: "Europe is helping itself. It's not helping Ukraine to stand against Russia, this is helping Europe to stand against Russian aggression."

Zelensky called on European Union leaders to agree to cap Russian oil prices at the lowest proposed level to curb Moscow's ability to pay for the war.

He said he was grateful to Poland and the Baltic states "for their proposals, quite reasonable ones, to set this cap at USD 30 per barrel."

Zelensky also said in his address to the Idea of Europe conference that much of Ukraine remained without heat or power after devastating Russian air strikes on its energy infrastructure, the Reuters news agency reported.
