The attack, targeting vehicles of the World Central Kitchen (WCK) organization, has sparked global criticism and raised serious questions about military conduct and discipline within the IDF ranks.

The Zman Israel portal reported on Friday that Halevi issued official reprimands to three senior officers: General Yaron Finkelman of the Israeli army's Southern Command, General Icik Kohen, commander of the 162nd Division, and Colonel Jair Cukerman, commander of the Nachal Brigade.

Additionally, Colonel Nochi Mendel, Chief of Staff of the Nachal Brigade, along with another senior officer from the unit, were dismissed from their positions, according to Zman Israel.

The IDF's internal investigation uncovered that the decision to attack the convoy was made in direct violation of combat engagement rules, without adequate verification of terrorist presence.

In the report, Zman Israel highlighted a "disturbing lack of discipline" and a grave miscommunication that failed to relay the convoy's pre-approved route to the brigade responsible for the area.

Despite explicit orders from division headquarters not to target humanitarian convoys, the Nachal brigade proceeded to attack the WCK vehicles based on an unfounded suspicion of armed individuals among them, according to the report.

Israel using AI to target Hamas?

This comes against the backdrop of emerging reports on Israel’s alleged usage of AI technology to identify their targets.

On Thursday, White House national security spokesperson John Kirby told CNN that the United States was looking into a media report that the Israeli military has been using artificial intelligence to help identify bombing targets in Gaza

The report, published Wednesday in +972 Magazine and Local Call, quoted Israeli intelligence officials involved in using an AI program known as "Lavender," which was reportedly used by Israeli army to mark tens of thousands of Gazans as suspects for assassination, with little further human oversight and lax regulations relating to civilian collateral deaths.

The Israeli Defense Forces said in a statement that no artificial intelligence was used to identify suspects.

"The IDF does not use an artificial intelligence system that identifies terrorist operatives or tries to predict whether a person is a terrorist. Information systems are merely tools for analysts in the target identification process," IDF said, Reuters reported.
