Morawiecki said the epidemic was under control in Poland, although the battle against the disease had not yet been won.

"Today is the big day when I can say that 100 days after the announcement of a state of epidemic, we already have PLN 100 billion transferred to save 5 million jobs," Morawiecki said.

He added that “significantly wealthier” countries had coped with the virus crisis “significantly less well.”

Poland’s president at the end of March signed into effect a multibillion relief and stimulus package aiming to shore up the economy and shield it from the impact of the coronavirus.

A total of 32,227 people have tested positive for the coronavirus in Poland, with 1,359 deaths from the COVID-19 respiratory disease so far, officials said on Monday.
