The launch of the voucher system was announced by President Andrzej Duda during his successful re-election campaign, and later adopted by Poland's Parliament.

Duda said he hoped the vouchers would boost the country’s tourism industry, which has been badly hit by the coronavirus crisis.

Since August 1, 728,000 vouchers worth PLN 625 million (EUR 141.5m, USD 167m) have been issued as part of the system, head of the Social Insurance Institution Gertruda Uścińska told Polish Radio 1 on Sunday.

As part of the scheme, vouchers worth PLN 500 (EUR 113, USD 134) are awarded to families for each child regardless of their income level.

The credits are valid until the end of 2021 and intended only for holidays in Poland.
