Employment down, wages up in Polish firms y/y in November: stats office

Employment in Polish companies dropped by 1.2 percent in November on average in year-on-year terms, the country’s Central Statistical Office (GUS) said on Thursday.

Meanwhile, average wages in Poland's corporate sector in November increased by 4.9 percent compared with the same month last year, the state-run statistics agency reported.

The average gross Polish monthly wage last month was PLN 5,484.07 (EUR 1,237, USD 1,514), according to the statistical office.

The figures are for companies with more than nine employees.

The Polish Prime Minister's Office said last month that some 6 million jobs had been saved around the country thanks to measures including a massive relief and stimulus package that aimed to shield the economy from the coronavirus.

Poland’s labour ministry has estimated that the country's unemployment rate was 6.1 percent in November, unchanged from the previous five months.
