A fresh supply of around 873,000 doses of the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine and a separate shipment of about 216,000 doses of the AstraZeneca shot arrived in Poland on Monday, officials announced as the country steps up its inoculation campaign.

The shipments were transferred to the warehouses of the Government Strategic Reserves Agency, from where they will be distributed to pharmaceutical wholesalers and then to hospitals and vaccination sites across the country, state broadcaster TVP Info reported.

Two days earlier, Poland received around 204,000 doses of a coronavirus vaccine developed by US drug maker Moderna, Michał Kuczmierowski, head of the Government Strategic Reserves Agency, told the media.

In the middle of last week, Poland received 120,000 doses of the Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 vaccine in its first delivery from the US drug maker.

By the end of the second quarter of this year, some 27 million doses of various coronavirus vaccines are expected to reach the country.

More than 6,700 vaccination sites are now available to citizens as the country ramps up its COVID-19 inoculation campaign, according to the prime minister's top aide, Michał Dworczyk, who is spearheading the drive.

Poland on Monday launched a pilot network of 16 mass COVID-19 vaccination centres, one in each province.

Ultimately, around 600 such facilities are expected to be set up across the country.

A network of drive-thru immunization sites is also available to citizens.

A total of 8,893,076 COVID-19 vaccine shots have been administered in Poland so far, including 38,525 over the last 24 hours, officials announced on Monday.

Poland on Monday reported 7,283 new coronavirus infections and 101 more deaths, bringing the country's total number of cases during the pandemic to 2,695,327 and fatalities to 62,133.
