The Pengab index, which measures banking sentiment in the country, went up by 3.8 points to 15.2 in June, the Polish Bank Association (ZBP) and market researcher Kantar TNS have said in a joint report.

The rise in the index reflected a further increase in customer activity on the Polish market for banking services amid a sustained drop in new COVID-19 infections, according to the report.

Krzysztof Pietraszkiewicz, the head of the Polish Bank Association, was quoted as saying that the banking sentiment index "has been continually extending its gains" since the start of the year, steadily bouncing back from a slide during the worst of the lockdown.

"Although the Pengab index remains lower than it was before the start of the COVID-19 crisis, it looks set to return to its pre-pandemic level if it continues to grow dynamically in the next few months," Pietraszkiewicz added.

The study was carried out from June 8 to 28, surveying 98 bank outlets nationwide, state news agency PAP reported.

In April last year, banking sentiment in Poland tumbled to its lowest level on record during the coronavirus pandemic.
