Polish jobless rate among EU's lowest, at 3.4% in July: Eurostat

Unemployment in Poland was a modest 3.4 percent in July, one of the lowest rates in the 27-nation European Union, the bloc’s statistics agency has reported.

The Czech Republic boasted the lowest jobless rate in the bloc in July, at 2.8 percent, followed by the Netherlands in second place with 3.1 percent, and Malta in third place with 3.3 percent, according to the Eurostat agency.

Poland had the fourth-lowest rate among member states in July, the agency's data showed on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, Greece had the highest seasonally-adjusted jobless rate in the EU, at 14.6 percent, while Spanish unemployment was the second-highest at 14.3 percent.

Eurostat reported that the EU average for July was 6.9 percent, down from 7.1 percent in June.

Poland’s Central Statistical Office (GUS), which uses a different methodology, reported last week that the Polish jobless rate dropped to 5.8 percent in July, from 5.9 percent in June.
