May’s result also represents a drop of 1 percentage point on the corresponding period of 2021, Polish state news agency PAP reported.

In terms of regions, unemployment varied from 2.8 percent in the western Wielkopolskie region to 7.9 percent in the northern Warmińsko-Mazurskie province.

'Second-best result since 1990'

Assessing the nationwide figure for May, Family and Social Policy Minister Marlena Maląg said: “It’s an absolutely fantastic result because since 1990, only in October 2019 was the rate lower, at 5 percent - we have reasons to be satisfied.”

Ministry officials stressed that Poland had one of the lowest jobless rates in the European Union.
