The country has now over 12,000 kilometres of bike paths and there are more on the way, the daily reported, quoting a report by the country’s Central Statistics Office (GUS).

Poland’s most bike-friendly city is Warsaw with a total of 600 kilometres of such routes, and an additional 80 kilometres to be finished this year.

Meanwhile, Denmark’s famously bike-loving capital, Copenhagen, only has around 390 kilometres of cycling routes. But the number of bikes in Copenhagen is bigger than the number of cars in the whole city, Rzeczpospolita reported.

Warsaw boasts a public bike system that is one of Europe’s biggest. The system, called Veturilo, registered 6.4 million rentals last year, the daily reported.

Friday’s Gazeta Wyborcza daily confirmed that cycling is the weapon of choice for sporty Poles.

The daily reported, citing a study, that 31 percent of Poles who are active at least once a month choose to go cycling, 28 percent go jogging and 24 percent go for walks.
