The Deputy Director of Caritas Poznań, Father Łukasz Łukasik, said that the Caritas Christmas Eve event is the only chance for many of its participants to have a Christmas meal together.

Around a thousand volunteers and members of four religious orders are to help organise the meeting and cook dishes for the occasion. Also, for the first time, US army soldiers stationed in Poznań will help secure the event, according to Father Łukasik.

Around 400 kg of carp, 450 litres of beet soup, half a ton of cabbage and half a ton of potatoes will be prepared for the meal.

Guests will have the opportunity to share a traditional Polish Christmas wafer, talk to others and eat their meal accompanied by the sounds of Christmas carols. Everyone will also receive a package with food products.

The Caritas Christmas Eve event was launched in 2003.
