According to niezalezna.pl, Tumso Abdurakhmanov’s popularity grew rapidly after he began to publicly debate with Chechen officials.

After one such dispute with Chechnya's parliamentary Speaker Magomed Daudov, a close associate of Chechnya's President Ramzan Kadyrov threatened the blogger by saying that he would be subject to "bloody revenge," niezalezna.pl quoted the kavkaz-uzel.eu website as saying.

The attack took place on Wednesday afternoon, niezalezna.pl reported. The attacker got into the blogger's apartment while he was sleeping and tried to kill him with a hammer, niezalezna.pl quoted Chechen association Vayfond as saying.

According to niezalezna.pl, Abdurakhmanov managed to disarm the attacker and called the police.

The attacker said that he had flown in from Moscow, niezalezna.pl reported in a story published under the sub-headline “The Shadow of the Kremlin.”

Tumso Abdurakhmanov is applying for political asylum in Poland, the website reported.
