The charity event took place at the Opera and Philharmonic Hall in the eastern Polish city of Białystok on Wednesday, public broadcaster Polish Radio’s IAR news agency reported.
Money collected during the concert, and all the proceeds from the "Helping Together” event, will be handed over to the families of Border Guard personnel and allocated for the treatment and rehabilitation of their children, who are sick or have disabilities, organisers said.
The Polish first lady said in a speech during the event that "for the families of ill children, it is extremely important to feel that they are not alone with their problems.”
“Sometimes a kind word will suffice, or the holding of the hand, but sometimes financial assistance is important as well,” Kornhauser-Duda said, as quoted by the state PAP news agency.
The president thanked Poland's border forces for their service amid a migrant crisis on the country's border with Belarus.
“I have no doubt that the parents of the children for whom we have met here today, are exemplary in their service," Duda said. "Why? Because they are able to combine excellent performance at work with fulfilling the very difficult parental responsibilities, which are usually unimaginably more challenging than ordinary tasks.”
The presidential couple provided financial help to the beneficiaries of the concert, public broadcaster Polish Radio’s IAR news agency reported.
