Caritas’ support centres provide refugees from Ukraine with food, flasks, sleeping bags and blankets, he said, adding that the organisation was distributing 45,000 meals a day.

Moreover, a special facility for mothers with children has been set up at a railway station in the southeastern Polish city of Przemyśl.

“The Catholic Church in Poland is also receiving orphans from Ukraine,” Dubicki said, adding that Caritas had so far provided accommodation for almost 900 "parentless little ones" and children with disabilities from Poland’s war-hit eastern neighbour.

Poland on Tuesdareported it had admitted 1.83 million refugees fleeing Russia's attack on Ukraine.
