Back to in-person format
As has become tradition, the 25th Science Picnic was co-organised with the Copernicus Science Centre, at its premises in Warsaw, near the banks of the Vistula.
It follows a two year break due to the COVID-19 pandemic, when the Science Picnic took place online.
With most of the COVID-19 restrictions lifted, Polish Radio’s annual, day-long get-together resumed its role as Europe’s largest open-air science-themed event.
The life-giving power of water
This year, the Science Picnic centred around water and its all-important role in life.
More than 50 science organisations explained all aspects of the liquid to the large audience full of families, conducting experiment after experiment, holding workshops and discussions.
The event-goers had an opportunity to build boats, explore water drops and learn about how trees drink, among other attractions.
Researchers took them virtually to Spitsbergen, showed state-of-the art equipment, including super-fins, and spelled out what plasm and coffee have in common, to name but a few topics.
Polish Radio coverage
Meanwhile, Polish Radio’s channels and the polskieradio.pl website provided extensive coverage of the event throughout the day, making sure listeners from around the country were able to take part in the exploration of the power of water.
