Mikołaj Pawlak told public broadcaster Polish Radio: “Polish children, Polish teenagers, and Polish families have passed the test of sensitivity to the suffering of others, a test of their humanity.”

He added: “These Polish hearts remain open to offering help to Ukrainian children.”

According to Pawlak, Polish kids are sharing their best qualities with Ukrainian refugee children, including compassion.

“They have welcomed Ukrainian children to their classrooms,” Pawlak said on the eve of Children’s Day, which is observed on June 1 in Poland.

Children’s Day wishes

Referring to Children’s Day, Pawlak said his wish for Polish children was that they “retain their youthful joy and their sensitivity to suffering in others for as long as possible.”

Pawlak added that Polish children “could transmit their joy” to their Ukrainian classmates, “who have experienced tragedy, trauma and sometimes the death of their loved ones.”

Wednesday is day 98 of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

Poland on Tuesday reported it had welcomed nearly 3.73 million refugees fleeing Russia's war on Ukraine.
