The opinion poll was carried out by the pollsters IBRIS for private broadcaster Radio ZET, Polish state news agency PAP reported.
64.2 percent of Poles against euro adoption
Respondents were asked if they agreed with the following statement: “Poland should adopt the euro instead of the Polish złoty.”
Almost a half of those surveyed, 49 percent, replied “definitely not.”
A further 15.2 percent said “rather not.”
Meanwhile, 14.7 percent of respondents replied “definitely yes.”
A further 9.8 percent said “rather yes.”
The remaining 11.3 percent of those asked said “I don’t know” or “it’s difficult to say.”
Anti-euro sentiments prevail in small towns and the countryside
According to the poll, opponents of the euro are especially highly represented in the Polish countryside (70 percent) and in towns of up to 50,000 inhabitants (75 percent).
Meanwhile, in the big cities (of over 250,000 inhabitants), opinion is divided, with 48 percent of respondents against the euro and 42 percent in favour of the single currency, the PAP news agency reported.
The survey was conducted between January 5-7, 2023, through computer-assisted telephone interviews (CATI) on a nationwide sample of 1,100 people, Radio ZET said.
