Marlena Maląg made the statement in parliament on Thursday, public broadcaster Polish Radio’s IAR news agency reported.

Addressing MPs, the family and social policy minister stated: “Since 2015, support for families has totalled almost PLN 310 billion (EUR 65 billion).

Maląg stressed that the government had launched “a new model of policy that does not turn a blind eye to social problems.”

Support for families, seniors, people with disabilities

She added that “the cabinet places a priority on social programmes designed to support local governments in fulfilling their duties towards families, seniors and people with disabilities.”

Maląg, who later also met reporters in parliament, highlighted the impact of such schemes as the Family 500 Plus children’s allowance, the Good Start programme, which aims to help parents finance school supplies for their children, and assistance with the costs of nursery care.

She declared that in 2023 alone, the government would spend over 37 billion (EUR 7.8 billion) on support for people with disabilities and their carers, as well as over PLN 70 billion (EUR 14.7 billion) on various forms of assistance to seniors, the IAR news agency reported.
