78% of Ukrainians have close friends or relatives killed or wounded

A new poll by the Kyiv International Institute of Sociology finds that most Ukrainians have been deeply and personally affected by the war.

A new poll from the Kyiv International Institute of Sociology and discussed in the Kyiv International finds that Ukrainians have an average of 7 family members or friends who are victims of Russian violence against Ukraine since the 2022 invasion.

78% have at least one close friend or family member who has been killed or wounded since the 2022 escalation of the Russian invasion. The Kyiv International article argues that these facts have weakened Russian talk of a "common history" between the two nations. 

Putin miscalculated that the 2022 invasion would quickly topple Zelensky's presidency to install a pro-Russian puppet leader, following the Russian policy in the Chechen Republic where Ramzan Kadyrov plays that role.

Before the Russian 2022 invasion, Ukraine was more divided in its attitudes to Russia. However, as President Zelensky frankly admitted in his 2022 Independence Day address, Ukraine was reborn "thanks" to the Russian invasion:
