"Band-aid for cancer" campaign lauched in Warsaw ahead of World Cancer Day: audio report

Every year on February the 4th, annual observances are held of World Cancer Day - a global healthcare event aimed at raising the awareness of cancer. This year, to mark the occasion in Poland, a cancer survivors' group called PARS (Polish Breast Cancer Survivors) has launched a multimedia campaign called "Band-Aid for Cancer" to help both patients and their caretakes and families go through the process.

According to the latest data by the Poland’s Central Statistical Office (GUS), cancer is a growing health problem in the country, with gastrointestinal and reproductive system cancers the most commonly diagnosed. According to experts, no patient should go through it alone.

"It is very important for patients to speak very normally about this subject. So we invited many patients to share their stories, to say what is important for them and what helped them. That's why the reference to a band-aid because it is something that can help us to go further" Magdalena Knefel of the cancer survivors' group PARS told Danuta Isler.
