The "Thank You, Democracy" campaign kicked off at the Copenhagen Democracy Summit in the Danish capital on Tuesday.
During the launch, Belarusian opposition leader Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya expressed her solidarity with the initiative as someone who "has witnessed firsthand the power of grassroots movements and the resilience of democracy," according to organizers.
European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and Venezuelan opposition figures Leopoldo López and Lilan Tintori also supported the effort.
To promote the initiative, videos have been launched on social media of important international figures in the defence of democracy explaining why it needs to be defended.
The Global Democracy Coalition is an alliance of more than 120 democracy organizations from around the world committed to advancing and protecting democracy worldwide.
