The game on Saturday marked the second time Lechia have won the national Super Cup title in a curtain-raiser to the new football season in Poland.

The one-off Super Cup match is traditionally held between the winners of the Polish Cup and the Ekstraklasa premier league champions from the previous season.

Lechia in early May beat Jagiellonia Białystok 1-0 in the Polish Cup final.

Meanwhile, Piast Gliwice sensationally won Poland’s top-flight Ekstraklasa football league later that month.

Piast last week drew 1-1 with Belarusian side BATE Borisov in the first leg of their Champions League round one qualifier.

Piast will play BATE in the second leg at home on Wednesday.

Poland’s Ekstraklasa premier league kicks off its 2019/2020 season on Friday.
