The victory in the Dutch city of Apeldoorn was the Poles’ seventh consecutive win in the tournament.

Commentators warned ahead of the match that the Germans would be Poland’s most dangerous opponents in the championship so far. But Germany were hampered by poor serves while the Poles looked the stronger team in all parts of their game.

In a bid for a place in the final, Poland will on Thursday in Ljubljana face the winners of a match between Russia and Slovenia.

The Poles, managed by Belgian coach Vital Heynen, kicked off their championship campaign with a 3-1 win against Estonia on Friday. They beat the Netherlands 3-0 in their second game.

They followed up with a 3-0 victory against the Czech Republic on Monday and a day later saw off Montenegro 3-0. They then beat Ukraine and Spain with the same score.

The tournament is being held in four countries: Belgium, France, the Netherlands and Slovenia. It started last Thursday and runs until September 29.

Poland are one of the world's strongest teams. They won the Volleyball Men's World Championships last year and are ranked No. 4 by the International Volleyball Federation (FIVB).
