Tennis: Polish women off to good start in Thailand

Poland’s Magda Linette on Wednesday beat Ukraine’s Kateryna Bondarenko 6-2, 6-2 in the first round of the WTA Hua Hin tennis tournament in Thailand.

Linette’ victory came on her 28th birthday. In the next round, on Thursday, the Polish no. 5 seed takes on China’s Peng Shuai.

Last year, Linette reached the semi-finals in Thailand, losing to the tournament’s eventual winner, Ukrainian Dayana Yastremska.

Later on Wednesday, Polish player Katarzyna Kawa was set to take on China’s Wang Qiang for a place in the quarter-finals.
