Football: Poland’s friendlies with Russia, Iceland put off

Poland’s upcoming friendly matches on home turf against Russia and Iceland have been pushed back amid the global coronavirus pandemic.

Poland was scheduled to play Russia at the National Stadium in Warsaw on June 2 and face off against Iceland in the western city of Poznań a week later.

The games have now been postponed until further notice, Poland's PAP news agency has reported.

The Polish team was to have played a total of four friendly matches on home turf ahead of the European football championships.

Earlier the coronavirus derailed Poland’s plans for games with Finland and Ukraine.

The Euro 2020 tournament was last month put off until 2021.

Poland’s national football squad was looking to make its mark at Euro 2020 after a disappointing 2018 World Cup in Russia.
