Cycling: European bronze for Poland’s Niewiadoma

Polish cyclist Katarzyna Niewiadoma has taken the bronze in the women’s elite road race at the European championships in Plouay, France.

Annemiek van Vleuten of the Netherlands won the 109.2-kilometre race on Thursday, ahead of Elisa Longo Borghini of Italy.

Poland’s Niewiadoma said after the event: “What a painful and beautiful race today! Extremely happy with my result, that extra little spark was much needed to get my confidence and faith in myself back.”

The 25-year-old Polish rider last year hit a career high by winning the one-day Amstel Gold Race in the Netherlands.
