Tennis: Poland’s Hurkacz moves into Miami Open quarterfinals

Poland’s Hubert Hurkacz has advanced to the quarterfinals of the Miami Open tennis tournament in the US state of Florida.

The 24-year-old Pole, ranked world No. 37 by the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP), edged past Canadian player Milos Raonic 4-6, 6-3, 7-6 in their round-of-16 match on Tuesday.

Up next for Hurkacz in the men's singles competition at the tournament is second-seeded Stefanos Tsitsipas of Greece.

In the women's singles, Poland’s Iga Świątek was knocked out of the Miami Open in the third round on Saturday by Ana Konjuh of Croatia. The rising Polish tennis star lost 4-6, 6-2, 2-6.

In the women's doubles, Świątek and Bethanie Mattek-Sands of the United States stormed into the quarterfinals with a 6-3, 6-1 win over China's Yifan Xu and Shuai Zhang on Sunday. 

The 2021 Miami Open began on March 22 and runs until April 4.
