But sports stadiums will only be allowed to fill to 25 percent of their capacity amid the pandemic, Health Minister Adam Niedzielski said on Wednesday.

As it eases its COVID-19 restrictions, Poland will from the start of next month allow outdoor sports areas across the nation to be used by up to 50 people at any one time, double the current limit of 25.

Meanwhile, indoor sports facilities including swimming pools will be able to reopen to organized groups of children and young people from May 1, though attendance will be limited to 50 percent, Niedzielski told a virtual press conference.

At the moment, indoor sports facilities nationwide are only available to professional athletes under strict health protocols.

Swimming pools and gyms are set to reopen to the general public—with a 50-percent capacity cap and stringent safety guidelines—from May 29, under a multi-stage plan unveiled by the government on Wednesday to ease Poland's COVID-19 restrictions.

Poland on Wednesday reported 8,895 new coronavirus infections and 636 more deaths, bringing the country's total number of cases during the pandemic to 2,776,927 and fatalities to 66,533.
