US Open: Poland’s Świątek into 2nd round of women’s singles

Poland’s Iga Świątek has made it through to the second round of the women’s singles competition at the US Open Grand Slam tennis tournament in New York.

The 20-year-old Pole, ranked world No. 8 by the Women's Tennis Association (WTA), saw off home favourite Jamie Loeb 6-3, 6-4 in their first-round encounter on Tuesday.

Up next for the rising Polish tennis star at the US Open is France's Fiona Ferro.

Poland’s Hubert Hurkacz has also advanced to the second round of the US Open.

Meanwhile, Polish players Kamil Majchrzak and Magda Linette both crashed out in the first round of the Grand Slam tournament in New York.

The 2021 US Open runs from Monday until September 12.
