The much-anticipated title fight, held under the auspices of the Polish MMA promotion KSW, was the main event of the Gliwice gala on Saturday, and turned out to be worthy of its billing, news outlets reported.

In the second round of the bout, during a ferocious exchange, Soldić unleashed a stunning left-hander that sent the 41-year-old Khalidov sprawling on the canvas, according to the mmafighting.com website.

Medics had to be called in as a knockout was declared, with Soldić adding the middleweight crown to his welterweight title.

It was the 26-year-old Croat’s seventh successive victory, while Khalidov, a pioneer of the Polish MMA scene, was left nursing a broken nose and a suspected broken jaw.

Soldić did not celebrate after the fight, as a mark of respect for his Chechen-born rival.
