Polish tower-runners dominate women’s event
Ficner was the first over the finish line among female runners, with compatriot Iwona Januszyk second and the Czech Republic’s Adéla Voráčková third, the wszystkoobieganiu.pl website reported.
Poland dominated the women’s contest in Warsaw’s Rondo 1 skyscraper, Iwona Wicha and Dominka Stelmach completing the race just seconds after the top three.
Meanwhile, Italy’s Fabio Ruga won the men's European tower-running championship, with the best of the Poles, Paweł Ruszała, finishing seventh.
2nd European title for Ficner
It’s the second European championship victory for Ficner, who previously triumphed in 2016, also at Rondo 1.
On Saturday, she clocked a finishing time of 9:45,01 in a race that required the runners to scale Rondo 1’s 38 storeys twice in quick succession. The elevation gain was 142 metres.
The European tower-running championship was also a fundraising event, collecting over PLN 43,000 (EUR 9,290) for a charity that helps abandoned children in southeastern Poland.
