Athletics: Lisowska wins Poland’s first-ever Euro marathon gold

Aleksandra Lisowska has claimed a gold medal, clocking less than 2.5 hours in the marathon at the 2022 European Championships in Munich.

For most of the marathon’s distance, the Polish 31-year-old kept in the leading group, but after 40 kilometres she broke away, took the position up front and held it till the very end of the race.

She finished the race in 2hr 28min 36sec, with an advantage of 6 seconds above Croatian runner-up Matea Parlov Kostro and 16 second before the Netherlands’ Nienke Brinkman, who came in third place. 

Other Polish female marathonists, Angelika Mach and Monika Jackiewicz, ranked 19th and 26th, respectively, which gave Poland a bronze medal in the three-athlete team marathon category.
