Women’s volleyball: Poland start World Champs with win

Poland on Friday beat Croatia 3:1 in their opening match at the 2022 FIVB Volleyball Women’s World Championships.

The Poles defeated their Balkan opponents 25:19, 21:25, 25:23, 25:15 in Arnhem, the Netherlands, as they returned to the World Championships stage after an absence of twelve years, TVP Sport reported. 

Poland’s remaining opponents in Pool B of the tournament are Thailand, South Korea, Dominican Republic and Turkey. 

They will play these teams on home soil, in the northern port city of Gdańsk.

Coached by Italy’s Stefano Lavarini and led by captain Joanna Wołosz, Poland next face Thailand on Tuesday night. 

The 2022 volleyball women’s World Champs

The 2022 FIVB Volleyball Women’s World Championships are co-hosted by Poland and the Netherlands.

Twenty-four teams will battle it out for the world title; medal candidates include Italy, defending champions Serbia and Brazil, according to dziennikpolski24.pl.  

The tournament runs until October 15.
