After losing 2-6, 6-2, 1-6 to Sabalenka in the semifinals, Świątek admitted she needed to rest after a long season.
“The bright side of this defeat is one more day off,” the Polish world No. 1 said.
The WTA Finals tournament in Fort Worth, Texas marked the end of a great season for Świątek, one in which she won eight titles, including two Grand Slam trophies, and climbed to the top of the world rankings.
She ends the season with a total of 67 victories, including a winning streak of 37 matches, the longest in women's tennis this century.
“It was hard not to think about rest because we have been in season since January," Świątek told reporters. "Now I will be able to fully rest. I was really looking forward to it. I'm going to spend a few days in Poland."
Sabalenka will face France’s Caroline Garcia for the WTA Finals singles trophy on Monday night.
