The live recording of a 2018 production of Richard Wagner’s Lohengrin features Polish tenor Piotr Beczała in the title role and baritone Tomasz Konieczny as Friedrich of Telramund.

The Poles appear alongside German soloists Anja Harteros, Waltraud Meier and Georg Zeppenfeld, with music direction by German conductor Christian Thielemann.

For Beczała and Konieczny, the production of Lohengrin at the Bayreuth Festival marked a debut appearance at one of the world’s most prestigious opera venues.

The Grammy for Best Opera Recording goes to the conductor, the leading soloists and the producer.

In 2013, the Warsaw Philharmonic and conductor Antoni Wit won a Grammy for a recording of works by Polish composer Krzysztof Penderecki, and a year later Polish jazz pianist and composer Włodek Pawlik took home a Grammy for the album Night in Calisia

The 62nd annual Grammy Awards ceremony is scheduled for January 26.
