Najder was a literary historian and an expert on the work of Polish-British writer Joseph Conrad.
From 1982 to 1987, he headed the Polish section of Radio Free Europe.
For that he was stripped of his Polish citizenship and subsequently sentenced to death in absentia by Poland’s communist authorities.
The sentence was lifted after communism fell in Poland in 1989.
He is survived by family including son Krzysztof Najder.
