The movie won the festival's Beyond Borders Award named after renowned Polish filmmaker Krzysztof Kieślowski.

The festival jury praised Supernova's “precision, economy, care, and transcendence."

It said in a statement that the edge-of-your-seat thriller "expertly blends genres and multiple narrative strands" while looking "at our small lives on the ground … as well as the uncontrollable cosmos that contains us.”

Nine leading Polish productions were screened during this year's New York Polish Film Festival, which ended on Sunday.

The films were shown in Polish with English subtitles during the 12-day celebration of Polish cinema.
