Matuszkiewicz, a jazz musician and composer who played saxophone, clarinet and piano, was widely regarded as one of the founding fathers of jazz in post-World War II Poland.
Between 1950 and 1958, he led the legendary jazz group Melomani, and after 1965 he mainly composed film and television scores.
Matuszkiewicz, nicknamed “Duduś,” composed music for Polish classics such as Podróz za jeden uśmiech, Alternatywy 4, Czterdziestolatek, Wojna Domowa, and many more.
In 2013, he was awarded the Gloria Artis Gold Medal for Merit to Culture. In 2021, he received a lifetime achievement award at the Polish Film Awards gala.
He passed away on July 31 at the age of 93.
