The film follows Anna and Adam, a young married couple who rent a holiday home on a sunny Italian island.

At the beginning of their stay, an accident happens. A man dies in front of their eyes and they fail to offer help. For how long can they go without remorse? Slowly, they start to lose control over their lives. A feeling of guilt, at first rejected and subconscious, begins to reign over their seemingly stable relationship.

Producer Agnieszka Wasiak of Poland’s Lava Films told the media: “To have Silent Land in Platform at TIFF is a dream come true. It’s such an amazing … well, ‘platform’ to launch a film internationally. Especially a film that is a European debut. We’re super happy and honoured.”

Silent Land is co-produced by Italy and the Czech Republic.

Woszczyńska, born in 1984, studied contemporary culture at the University of Warsaw and film directing at the National Film School in Łódź, central Poland.

Her 2014 graduation short feature Fragments was shown at the Cannes Festival.

The Toronto International Film Festival is an Oscar-qualifying festival.
