First published in Poland in 1946, the book is a collection of eight short stories which are calmly related accounts of German crimes in Poland during World War Two.
As a member of a special committee for the investigation of Nazi crimes in Poland, Nałkowska had access to first-hand accounts and testimonies of the victims and witnesses of German atrocities.
In 2000, Medallions was published in an English translation by the Northwestern University Press.
Nałkowska died in 1954.
