The country’s entry was chosen during a competitive selection show dubbed “The heart of Europe beats here! We choose the hit for Eurovision,” which was aired on public television on Saturday in a bid to pick Poland’s international successor to its 2021 entry, Rafał Brzozowski’s “The Ride”.

In the final, Krystian Ochman faced Daria and the band “Unmute”. He won 51 percent of the combined votes of the viewers as well as the jury.

Ochman, who is 23 years old, hails from Massachusetts, United States. But at the age of 18 he decided to complete his education in Poland, where his parents were born.

A grandson of famous Polish tenor Wiesław Ochman, in 2020 Krystian won the 11th edition of The Voice of Poland. He released his acclaimed debut album in November last year.

This year's Eurovision Song Contest will be held in Turin, Italy from May 10 to 14.
