The jury prize also went to "The Eight Mountains" by Belgian directors Felix Van Groeningen and Charlotte Vandermeersch.

"EO", based on the classic French film “Au Hasard Balthazar” by Robert Bresson, is told through the eyes of a donkey. "Thank you, my donkeys," said Skolimowski in his acceptance speech.

“EO”’s protagonist is a donkey born in a Polish circus, where it performs with a young artist named Kasandra (Sandra Drzymalska), who takes care of the animal. After a demonstration by animal rights activists, the two are separated. The donkey ends up in a petting zoo and later changes owners several times, “experiencing joy and pain, and feeling the wheels of fate crushing his innocence”, according to the official synopsis.

The festival’s main prize, the Palme d’Or, went to Ruben Östlund’s “Triangle of Sadness”.
