The 2022 Transatlantyk Prize
One of them, Italy’s Silvano de Fanti, has won the 2022 Transatlantyk Prize, awarded for outstanding achievements in promoting works by Polish writers.
De Fanti was honoured for his translations of Polish classics, from Adam Mickiewicz to Cyprian Kamil Norwid and Bolesław Prus, as well as Nobel Prize winning writers, Wisława Szymborska and Olga Tokarczuk.
The 5th World Congress of Polish Literature translators
The award ceremony took place during the 5th World Congress of Polish Literature Translators, which was held at the weekend, in Poland’s southern city of Kraków.
The event, organised by the state-run Polish Book Institute, gathered over 250 translators from more than 50 countries, thanks to whom audiences all over the world can read the works of Polish authors.
To sum up this celebration of Polish literature, and of those who work to bring Polish books to the foreign reader, Radio Poland’s Klaudiusz Madeja spoke to Mateusz Adamski from the Polish Book Institute.
