The planned reduction is designed to benefit small and fledgling businesses whose monthly after-tax earnings do not exceed PLN 6,000 (EUR 1,395, USD 1,544) and whose before-tax income is under PLN 10,000 a month.

Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki told a news conference that the new rules, if approved by parliament and signed into law by the president, would enable firms to save up to PLN 500 on contributions to the Social Insurance Institution (ZUS) every month.

He also said that the proposed measure, dubbed “Small ZUS Plus,” was designed to help small firms get off the ground and “spread their wings” by freeing up more funds to grow their business.

The government wants the new rules to take effect from January, with the cost to public coffers estimated at around PLN 1.5 billion, public broadcaster Polish Radio’s IAR news agency reported.

The proposed cut comes as part of efforts to deliver on a series of promises Poland’s ruling conservatives made to voters before winning a second term in elections last month.

Poland’s conservative leader Jarosław Kaczyński said ahead of the October 13 parliamentary vote that his party would bring in a raft of new policies during the first 100 days of its next term in power.

Polish President Andrzej Duda in August signed into law a series of measures aiming to reduce the regulatory burden on firms, and improve the ease of doing business.

Earlier that month the president greenlighted legislation to introduce a new type of easy-to-run business amid efforts to encourage entrepreneurship.
