The gear is being imported by Polish copper giant KGHM, according to public broadcaster Polish Radio’s IAR news agency.

The first plane loaded with medical items from China landed in Warsaw last week.

That shipment arrived after Poland's President Andrzej Duda held a phone talk with his Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping to discuss medical supplies, according to officials.

The foreign ministry in Warsaw said earlier this month that China would supply Poland with thousands of test kits, face masks and other protective gear, such as suits and gloves, as part of efforts to contain the coronavirus epidemic.

Michał Dworczyk, head of the Polish Prime Minister's Office, has said that Poland will this week launch an “air bridge” with China to fly in protective gear for medical staff working to counteract the outbreak.

Meanwhile, Polish fuel giant PKN Orlen has pledged to allocate a further PLN 60 million (EUR 13.2 million, USD 14.6 million) to help fight the Covid-19 disease.

Several other Polish state-run firms have also pitched in to help combat the epidemic.
