Customers are also heading to the chemist’s in search of substances that promise to improve their mood or help them sleep at night.
Sales of such non-prescription products have climbed 20 percent, said Tomasz Leleno, a spokesman for Poland’s Main Pharmaceutical Chamber.
“Primarily these are herbal preparations in the form of tablets or teas,” he said.
He added that Poles aged 40 to 50 were most likely to reach for such items.
“The increased interest in these types of products comes from a sense of threat associated with the coronavirus, from the fear of people losing their jobs or as a result of difficulties in maintaining family ties,” Leleno said.
A total of 11,902 people have tested positive for the COVID-19 disease in Poland, with 562 deaths from the coronavirus so far, officials said on Monday afternoon.
The first infection was confirmed by Polish authorities on March 4, while the country's first coronavirus fatality was announced on March 12.
